The results of a series of borings made atthis location, indicate that at about 6,400 Victoria Park, in a depth of 49 ft. ofwater, shale was struck at 82 ft. depth. Atabout ft. from shore, in a depth of 42ft. of water, shale was struck at a depth of72 ft., and at corresponding depths at otherlocations, the depth of the shale at the shorebeing 50 ft. These borings all show that itis quite possible to tunnel in shale, to an in-. Fig. 3. In order to ascer-tain the ciinditions at the selected point, ob-servations have been taken, whenever therewas any indication of disturbance of the clay, since the middle of September, but it has onlybeen possible to obtain samples on three days, because of the fact that the turbidity hasnot extended out to the proposed site of theintake crib.
