There are means of putting pressureon these rolls consisting of either springs with top screws andhand wheels, or of levers with weights. Each compartmenthas seven immersion rolls made of either brass or wood forleading the yarn through the dye liquor. Tliese machines are usually fitted with light but strong: pipe overheadrigstiiT supporting the necessary pin rails, bars and reels for receiving anddelivering the waips. They consist of a wooden tub supported on ironlegs to bring it to a convenient height, fitted with iron nipstands containing nip or squeeze rolls with pressure attach-ments. There is a brass immersion frame which stands in-side the tub and supports the brass immersion rolls and ne-cessary brass guides for leading the yarn through the machines are sometimes made with a single compart-ment, but usually double with two compartments standing sideby side. The nip rolls are made double and are supportedin these stands and each compartment is fitted with a sep-arate immersion frame, rolls and guides. When made double,one compartment is used for sizing dark shades and the otherfor sizing light shades. These machines are now fitted witha light but strong pipe overhead rigging carrying the necessarypot eyes, reels, etc., to receive, run through and deliver twowarps in each
