Tombstone of centurion M Favonius Facilis from Colchester, AD 43-50. He wears the full armour of a Roman officer and carries a centurion's vine- rod (vitis). He served at Camulodunum (modern Colchester), and the inscription records that the monument was set up by two of his ex-slaves, called Verecundus and Novicius. One of the earliest dated sculptures from Roman Britain.
