Slough, Berkshire, UK. 3rd January, 2021. The old Datchet Road bridge across the M4 in Slough has now been demolished as part of the M4 Smart Motorway upgrade and the new bridge is now operational. There remains a huge construction compound off the Datchet Road in what used to be fields where horses grazed. 35 people have been killed in the UK in the past five years on Smart Motorways and many locals won't be using the M4 once the Smart Motorway becomes operational due to safety concerns as the hard shoulder will be removed and replaced with intermittent emergency areas.
