Hydra, ingested water flea and rotifers, polarized light micrograph. The Hydra (left) has ingested a water flea. At lower right is a colony of Conochilus rotifers. Hydra are small simple predatory fresh-water animals. They catch small swimming crustaceans such as water fleas using stinging and adhesive cells on their tentacles. Water fleas are small crustaceans, commonly found in fresh water. Rotifers are microscopic aquatic animals that are related to roundworms. Dark field illumination.
