This work titled The Neckan was crafted by the Swedish sculptor and professor Johan Peter Molin who died in 1873. It complements the poem of the same name by Molin's contemporary, the English poet Matthew Arnold. It shows Sir Neckan of Norse mythology, sitting on a rock by the Baltic Sea, playing on his harp, with his wife and children about him. In Norse mythology, the Neckan are shapeless water spirits. The photo dates to 1908.
