A large pithoid jar excavated from the Palace of King Nestor and now in the museum in the nearby town of Hora. (Chora) The museum has many such jars, some painted and some with patters. A pithoid jar is a term given to any large storage vessel from the Neolithic to bronze ages used by peoples bordering the Mediterranean. They were used to store both solids and liquids. Nestor's Palace was occupied from about1300BC until it was destroyed by fire in 1200BC.
