Manyold pictures show deacon and sub-deacon, or deaconand clerk, each holding a candle at the Elevation. If a clergyman acts as server as well as deacon(which sometimes happens at early services), he willtake the duties of the clerk as described in chapter addition to reading the Epistle and ministering thechalice, and he will wear stole deaconwise and manipleover his albe, and, if possible, a dalmatic as well.
