JONES JASlKR COLNTV, IOWA. 929 day and there they both died when their son, Loyd D., was a small boy. then went to make his home with Benjamin Dean, with whom heremained until he was nineteen years of age. Dean was a good man and didall he could for the friendless boy. sending him to school and in every waypossible taking the place of a father. He was a hotel keeper. At the age ofnineteen Mr. Jones came to Illinois, where he farmed for over two years,after which he came to Newton, Iowa, and engaged successfully in farmingnear there for twenty-five }ears, ha\ing arrixed in this county in the fall (jf1857 Xewton was then but a small village and the whole country was prac-tically undeveloped and new, and Mr. Jones has li\ed to see and take part inits wonderful transformation.
