Woodland - lime tree avenue either side of the main drive to the house. Cliveden holds part of the National Plant collection

Woodland[edit] There is a lime tree avenue either side of the main drive to the house. Cliveden holds part of the National Plant Collection of Catalpa.[47] In 1897 the 1st Lord Astor imported a section of a Californian redwood and had it installed in the woods. At 16 ft 6 in ( m) across it is the largest section of a Sequoia gigantea in Britain.[48] The woodlands were first laid out by Lord Orkney in the eighteenth century on what had been barren cliff-top; they were later much restocked by Bill Astor but suffered badly in the Great Storm of 1987. The National Trust continues the re-planting of the beechwoods.
