Darwin infrared space telescope. Computer artwork of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Darwin mission telescopes in orbit over Earth. The Darwin mission, slated for launch in 2016, has several infrared free-flying telescopes that will feed observations to a main communications spacecraft containing a beam combiner, spectrographs and cameras. The misson's aim is to search for signs of life (such as water and ozone) on planets orbiting other stars.
