Oil painting portrait of William Shakespeare known as the Cobbe Portrait, claimed to be done from life in or around 1610. Unknown artist, oil on panel, 54 x 38 cm (21¼ x 14¾ In / Zoll) Cobbe Heritage. There are at least five copies known in existence. This one is claimed to be the original by the Cobbe family. The phrase "Principum amicitias" comes from Horace, Horatius, and means: the alliances of princes! Or: friendships of princes or among principes. In the original text (Odes, book 2, ode 1) it reads: beware of the alliances of princes! Now in Hatchlands Park in Surrey in the UK.
