The officer was responding to an apartment call and was shot on location. He was taken to Medical City Hospital, Plano where he later died of his wounds. A civilian at the call was also shot by the shooter. In an seperate and un related incident, a Dallas Police car had its window shot out by a high powered rifle hile driving on an expressway south of downtown. And till, another incident occurred a few days earlier when a man broke into the Central Division's parking lot and took a sledge hammer to the windshields of several parked squad cars doing $5-thousand in flags and signs to Back the Blue are strong though out the Metroplex as a result of these. Officer Sherrard's funeral has not yet been released.
