Dinosaur egg fossils. Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved, including secondary structures such as eggs. Dinosaurs were a large group of reptiles that dominated life on the planet from 230 million years ago until about 65 million years ago. Like reptiles today, they mostly reproduced using eggs.
