Quirky wide angle view showing the interior of Severalls Chapel, Colchester Essex, UK

Severalls Hospital complex was completed in 1913 and the chapel was one of the last buildings to be finished. It now stands in mature woodland (a hindsight from the days when the site was planned and designed). The site closed in 1997 and has since fallen into disrepair and dereliction. Built with red brick, the chapel wasn't fully completed, as it doesn't’ boast a North Transept. One solitary bell hangs from the open belfry, with both belfry and chapel roofs protected by red clay tiles. One of the key features the building has is the unique stained glass window, which shows a triptych of images displaying both a doctor (left) and a nurse (right) praying along with patients and what appears to be Jesus in the larger middle window. The other point of interest is the redundant chapel organ, which sadly has fallen victim to vandalism. A plain structure, the chapel sadly wasn't listed and plans for it to be demolished came into effect midway through August 2016 according to local sources. This along with other parts of the site, are to make way for redevelopment of new homes.
