The utterly chic Maiden Lane has, as its name implies, a history of ill repute. The street was once home to brothels, but is now the posh address for outdoor cafes and boutiques like Chanel. Pedestrian gates close off Maiden Lane to traffic during the day. On the short walk from one end of the lane to the other, you'll encounter galleries, bistros, hair salons, and the occasional busker belting out an aria. Stop at 140 Maiden Lane to appreciate the only Frank Lloyd Wright structure in the city of San Francisco.
