It stands tramping well. 35 lbs. to the acre $0 25 Festuca pratensis (Meadow Fescue, or English Blue Grass). A highly valuable species for permanent grass land. It does not, however, at- tain to its full productive power till the second or third year, when it far exceeds most other sorts in the quantity of its produce and nutritive matter. It is relished by live stock, both in hay and pasture, and is one of the most desirable permanent grasses for general culture. 40 lbs. to the acre 18 Festuca rubra (Bed Fescue). The essential distinction of this Fescue is its creeping roots, which in dry and sandy soils are often as strong as those of the common Couch Grass. Well adapted for gravelly banks and dry slopes, which it will protect and cover. 25 lbs. to the acre 25 Festuca tenuifolia (Slender Fescue). Flourishes well on dry and sterile soils. It is well suited for large bleaching greens, lawns, etc. 30 lbs. to the acre 25 Fox-tail. See Alopecurus pratensis. Holcus lanatus (Meadow Soft, or Velvet Grass).
