A new history of painting in Italy : from the II to the XVI century . exclusive pro-fessor of the science. Perugino, no doubt, was not unmindful of Ghir-landaios masterpieces when he designed the Delivery of the Keys, buthe had not as yet Ghirlandaios art in distributing space, nor his talentin combining figures with scenery or edifices. Of his landscapes at theSixtine there is less to be said than of his architecture, in consideringwhich, particularly with reference to the fresco before us, it is noteworthyhow much the octagon temple has in common with that of the CaenSposalizio, or that of Raphaels Marriage at the Brera. The rulingstyle in these is represented in the works of the architects collectivelyknown under the name of Bramante, and is found in its simplest andmost classic form in the S. Maria della Consolazione at Todi by Bramanteof But an early example of it may be seen in a study of buildingsat S. Chiara of Urbino, due, as we have supposed, to the pencil of Piero 1 Completed in 1504 according to PUNGILEONI, Vita di Bramante, p. PERUGIVO. OF THE KEYS TO S. PETER Sixtine Chapel, Rome.
