Magnificent Garden of the Gods Park and Pikes Peak Colorado

Fourteen thousand foot Pikes Peak overshadows the sandstone spires and rock formations at the base of America's Mountain in the Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs early in the morning on a beautiful spring day just as the sun was clearing the ridge east of the city. The morning sun illuminates the red sandstone peaks and enhanes their color at this time of day. A close look at the peak reveals wind sheer, as extreme high elevation winds blow snow over the top of the peak.
