P. has appeared among Barkeria elegans sent directfrom Mexico, and sold by Messrs. Protheroe &Morris in the spring of 1903. In appearance the Epidendrum nonchinense, asit was named by Prof. Reichenbach, resemblesthe E. elegans, with which it is associated, soclosely that the two can scarcely be separatedwhen not in flower. Both have slender pseudo-bulbs, furnished with rather fleshy leaves anderect terminal flower-spikes. The flowers of , however, are much smaller and morenumerous, and white, with dark-purple markingson the labsllum. It is singular that two plants. Some of hisplants, when these notes were taken, wereso handsomely marked that they mighthave been profitably used as foliageplants. Of Primula sinensis there werethree-hundred, and a similar number ofplants of P. obconica. The Kitchen-garden includes 6 acres of land, two of which arc en-closed within walls. Hardy fruit-trees havebeen planted wherever suitable positionscould be found for them, and Mr. Jordanhas himself worked a number of stocks withchoice varieties of Apples. Last season the ORCHID NOTES AND GLEANINGS. EPIDENDRUM is interesting to note that this pretty littleplant has appeared again after many years, andin such a way that any doubt as to its origin isremoved. Lindley, on erroneous information,described it originally as Ljeliopsis chinensis, butnothing was known of plants in
