The Cerne Abbas Giant or Rude Giant is a figure of a naked man on a hillside near the village of Cerne Abbas in England. The origin and age of the chalk carving is unknown, however discoveries in 1996, provided proof that the illustration is based on other images of Hercules, who was often depicted wielding a club and carrying a cloak made from the Nemean Lion. The drawing is associated in local folklore with fertility.
