At the Church of St. Lucy in the Bronx, Msgr. Pasquale Lombardo built a replica of the Holy Stairs in Rome, said to be the twenty-eight steps Christ ascended when brought before Pontius Pilate. Tradition says they were brought to Rome from Jerusalem by St. Helena in the 4th century.
