[Vol. XXXVIII, No. 9. ELECTRICAL GENERATING EQUIPMENT The new generating equipment consists of a 5500-kva,13,200-volt, three-phase, G. E. 25-cycle alternator drivenby a seven-stage Curtis horizontal turbine at a normal. Worcester Power—Triangular Substation speed of 1500 The machine delivers 243 amp perphase at 90 per cent power factor and is of the two-poletype. At the time of its installation this unit was thelargest horizontal outfit installed by its makers. It isequipped with hydraulically operated valves controlled bya pilot valve connection with the governor. An emergencystop is carried on the main shaft with a provision fortripping the throttle valve and shutting down the machineif the speed rises 10 per cent above normal. The turbineunit occupies a space about 283^2 ft. long x 13 ft. wide x10^ ft. high over the base. It is excited by a 75-kwturbo-generator delivering current at 125 volts and oper-ating at 3300 The larger turbine exhausts into aWorthington surface condenser having a cooling surface of10,000 sq. ft., the condenser being located immediately be-neath the turbine and connected with it by a copper ex-pansion joint. The turbine is self-co
