The front (W) face of the mid-C9thAD, Class II Pictish cross-slab in Aberlemno churchyard, Angus, Tayside, Scotland, UK. A Celtic ring cross carved in high relief on a slab of Old Red Sandstone high. The central roundel contains a spiral design of three interconnecting triskeles, the flanking side arms are filled with keywork patterns. The shaft & upper head are decorated with varying forms of knotwork. Intricately intertwined beasts, including seahorses bottom R, fill the background. The beasts are reminiscent of Northumbrian art & the C9th Celtic Book of Kells.
