Alumot dam across the Jordan River, Israel, blocking the river's exit from the Sea of Galilee. The Jordan flows north to south through the Sea of Galilee and on to the Dead Sea. The river is an important water resource for the surrounding populations in Syria, Israel, the West Bank and Jordan. Israel's diversion of water from the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan River has reduced its flow drastically, resulting in environmental damage, water shortages downstream, and the shrinking of the Dead Sea.
