There was a complete reversal of business conditions in this city last week. Instead of being hard pushed to secure enough stock to fill all orders, the wholesale and commission houses found all sorts of flowers coming into the market in such quantities as to pro- duce a glut. Up to the first part of the week dahlias found a ready sale and were received in safe quantities. Now, regardless of quality, they fail to find a purchaser. Cosmos is over- plentiful and, with the market glutted with it and dahlias, considerable diffi- culty is experienced in marketing chrys- anthemums. The carnation market is similarly hit. It is hard to get even $3 per hundred for carnations. The supply has in- creased greatly. During the first two weeks in October there were many oc- casions when the dealers had to refuse orders for valley and the price went to $5 per hundred. Easter lilies were quite scarce and often there were not enough of these to fill all calls. This situation also has changed. Valley has declined to $1 per hundred and Easter lilies go begging. Yellow daisies have again made their appearance in small quanti- ties and meet with occasional sales. Single violets of local production are now in fine shape and are bringing as high aa 75 cents per hundred. The sup- ply of roses is not heavy, but there are enough to meet all demands. There was no great rush of business last week, but the wholesalers were well satisfied with results. A few large fu- neral orders and wedding decorations produced some activity at the retail stores. Trade is amply up to the stand- ard for this time of the, year. In all probability business for October will show an increase over the same month of last year. Various* Notes.
