Taken from the Jaggar Museum, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, looking across Kilauea Caldera. In the foreground are fumaroles - opening which emit steam and gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, and hydrogen sulfide. Mauna Ulu means 'growing mountain' in Hawaiian, and is a satellite volcano to Kilauea. It formed between May 24, 1969, and July 22, 1974.
