In 1S99 he was electedmayor of Provo, and served the peopleso well in that capacity that they elect-ed him again to that office in 1901. BOOTH, John Edge, Bishop of theFourth Ward of Provo from 1877 to1895, is a son of Richard L. Booth and Elsie Edge, and was born June 29, 1847,at Bedfordleigh, Lancashire, came to Utah Sept. 12, 1857. Duringihe move in 1858 he lived in Alpine,Utah county. In 1860 he herded sheepin Draper, Salt Lake county. He wasr- volunteer in the Blackhawk war in1866, doing service on the Sevier In 1868 he attended the school at Draperwhich was taught by Dr. John R. the winter of 1869-70 he attend-ed the Deseret University. In 1870-71he taught in the High School at Boun-tiful, Davis county. From May, 1871,till it closed he taught the branchschool of the University at Provo. Hewas called to be a counselor to BishopHarvey H. Cluff of the Fourth Ward,Provo, in August, 1875. In June, 1877,he was called to be Bishop of that Wardand served in that office till January,1S95. From October, 1883, to November,1884, he assisted President Wm. M. Pal-mer in the Northern States Mission andduring 1S89 and 1890 he presided oversaid mission.
