Smallhythe Place near Tenterden, Kent, former home of Ellen Terry. 1996 Smallhythe Place in Small Hythe, near Tenterden in Kent, is a half-timbered house built in the late 15th or early 16th century. It was owned by the actor Ellen Terry in 1899 as a retreat and she lived there till her death in 1929. Her daughter Edy Craig turned the house into a museum and its barn into a working theatre, then gave the entire property to the National Trust. Donald Sinden was the president of the museum and patron of the Barn Theatre until his death in 2014. Joanna Lumley has now taken over from him. Pictu
