Hanriot monoplane, 1910. Piloted by 15-year-old Marcel Hanriot (1894-1961), this monoplane is being flown low over scared horses and their handlers. This French airplane was designed and built by Marcel's father, Rene Hanriot (1867-1925). In 1907, Rene, originally a motor sports enthusiast, had founded the Hanriot aircraft company that produced a range of designs until it merged with Farman in 1936. Photographed in Hungary on 4 June 1910, the day before the Budapest Air Show. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries.
