View of the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage and the Symphony Lake at the Singapore Botanical Gardens, UNESCO World Heritage Site

Established in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is the only tropical garden to be honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in recognition for its role in the region's rubber trade and for its tropical colonial garden landscape. Located at the fringe of the city's Orchard Road shopping district, it houses more than 10,000 species of flora, spread over its area of 82 hectares (200 acres). The Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, built in 1994 on an islet in the Symphony Lake in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, is the venue for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's monthly SSO in the Park open-concept concerts.
