It is the older portion of which the front is shown in our View, with the long path leading to Hurst-green, and a sheet of water on each side of the path. This part of the building was erected by Sir Thomas detached edifice to the right hand is the chapel. The library is well arranged, containing 30,000 volumes and many curious manuscripts, besides such historical relics as Sir Thomas More's hat and seal, and the Bible held by Mary Queen of Scots when she ascended the gardens are quaintly laid out, with shady yew-trees along the walks'.
