Peirce Hill Private House, Singapore, Singapore. Architect: Kay Ngee Tan Architects, 2014. Pool separating main house from annex

The Main house has the shape of on an ‘U’ and the Annex wing takes on an ‘I’ shaped form. The Vertical element is used for the Annex wing, where the owner’s son resides. Open timber lattice screens reach up and bend to the back to form a vertical ‘L’ shape. The screen allows breeze and sun to enter into the living space. The horizontal element is seen on the Main house. A stone wall projects beyond a backdrop of a cast concrete wall and turns around the curve to form another ‘L’ shape, emulating the mother, a more private person. The house is designed for two generations that keep a separate lifestyle in a modern Asian context.
