She was then takenback to the infliction of similar barbarity. Small cords were twistedround her naked arms, legs and thighs, till they cut through theflesh to the bone ; and blood, in copious torrents, streamed from thelacerated veins. Eight days after, she died of her wounds, and wastranslated from the dungeons of the Inquisition to the glory of hea-ven.* Ah, who can conceive the tale of unutterable anguish that is in-cluded in a single instance of inquisitorial malignity and cruelty—such, perhaps, as that just related !
