A combination flintlock/air rifle, Johann Peter Bosler or Friedrich Jakob Bosler in Darmstadt, circa 1740. Slightly swamped, octagonal barrel with eight grove rifling in mm calibre. The back of the breech has a recoil sphere to protect the pressure chamber valve when the piece used as a flintlock. Gilded vine and floral engraving on the breech and muzzle (gilding worn). Dovetailed brass front sight. Chiselled iron folding rear sight. Iron flintlock, the lockplate is finely engraved with a hunter winding his horn, a bow and quiver, and the signature, "Bosle,
