A Navy aircraft director signals the pilot of an F/A-18C Hornet to taxi to the catapult in preparation for launch from the flight deck of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as the ship operates in the Philippine Sea on June 22, 2006. The Kitty Hawk Carrier Strike Group is participating in exercise Valiant Shield 2006, a joint exercise consisting of 28 naval vessels, more than 300 aircraft, and approximately 20,000 service members from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
