A Central German tree trunk chest, presumably Thuringia, 14th/15th century Extremely heavy body, cut as one piece from a massive oak trunk with a wall thickness of approximately 10 cm. Heavy hand-forged iron band fittings on all sides. Two moveable carrying handles on the sides, the lid with two moveable pull rings. Two hinge straps with hasps, one hasp broken off and missing. The front displays the monogram "IM SH" partially hidden by the straps. The hinge straps bear smith marks and the stamped number "94". The lid has a later lock, added around 1600, with a ,
