This family is absolutely distinct from theBarker family of Massachusetts, mentioned inGores Roll of Arms. John CoGHiLL, the emigrant, the son of Mar-madtike Coghill of Tintergate, Co. York, Eng-land, came over to Virginia in 1664. He descended from the Coghills of Coghill,Co. York, and of Bletchington, Co. Oxford. SirThomas Coghill, of that place, was High Sher-iff of the County in 1633. Arms : Gules, on a chevron,argent, three pellets; a chief,sable. Crest : On a mount, vert,a cock, or, wings expanded.
