Hewas a handy fellow around the station and twodays after the agent recommended him he wasput to work as night operator at Glover Gap,September 6, 1883, where he worked two then went to Fairmont, worked there tendays and was appointed agent and operator atColfax, which position he held for four yearsand one month, being transferred to GloverGap as agent and operator on November 1,1887. This dual position he held until May, 1906,when agency and telegraphy were separated, heretaining his position as operator in thetower. Partly on account of the heavy burden of work
