A handbook for farmers and dairymen . The conse-quent demand forspraying apparatus hasbeen met by all theleading pump manufac-turers of this country, and ready-fitted appa-ratus, consisting ofpump, spray tank orbarrel, and nozzle withhose, are on the marketin numerous styles andat prices ranging from $20 upward. The cost of a spraying outfit for orchardwork may, however, be considerably reduced by purchasingmerely the pump and fixtures, and mounting them at homeon a strong barrel. An apparatus of this sort, representinga style that has proven very satisfactory in practical ex-perience, is illustrated in the accompanying figure. The nozzle should be capable ofbreaking the water up into a fine mist spray, so as to wetthe plant completely with the least possible expenditure ofliquid. The two more satisfactory nozzles are those of theNivcr and the Vermorel type. A suitable pump with nozzleand hose may be obtained of any pump manufacturer orhardware dealer at a cost of from $13 to $15. If one withbrass fittings be secured it will also serve for the applicationof fungicides. The outfit outlined above may be mountedon a cart or wagon, the additional elevation secured in thisway facilitating the spraying of trees, or for more extendedoperations, the pump may be mounted on a large watertank.
