Journal Galveston-Houston Railway—Basement Plan of Webster Power Station March 11, 1911.] ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL. 4i3 and in the substations the exciters for the synchronous motorsare mounted on the motor shafts. An interesting feature of the Webster substation wiring isthe use of a six-wire busbar connected with a compensator forstarting the synchronous sets. In the other substations 33J/3per cent taps are taken off the transformers and five-wire busconnections are provided, so that by the use of double-throwstarting switches the motor-generators can be started withoutthe use of compensators. The connections also provide fordirect-current starting when desired. Three 250-kw oil-insu-lated transformers are provided for each substation, with the 24:51. The maximum speed is from 55 to 60 Electric automatic relay type multiple unit control isprovided, and the air-brake equipment is the Westinghousetype, AMM. Each pair
