THE VALUE OF TYPE IN BEEF MAKING. In order to determine just what advantages are possessedby the beef-type steer as compared with dairy-type steers, some experiments have been carried out which have resultedin interesting findings. It has long been known that beef steerssuit feeders and butchers better than steers of dairy has been claimed that beef steers gain faster in proportion. Fig. 11. Dairy-Type Steer. Experimental results have upheld someof these views and disproved others. In 1903, the Iowa Experiment Station* conducted a seriesof experiments dealing with the comparative merits of the twotjrpes for beef production. The object was to provide answers *Ia. In the gainsmade, what differences exist between the two types as to dis-tribution of such gains over the body? 3. Which type of steeryields the greater profit to the feeder? 4. Which type showsthe greater amount of offal? 5. Whi
