Kremikovtsi is the largest metallurgical company in Bulgaria from 1963 to 2009. After the transition of Bulgaria to a market economy, it was privatized. In 1999. state-owned company sold to Bulgarian firm Daru metals for $ 1. In 2005. Daru metal sells the company to Indian entrepreneur Pramod Mithal for $ 110 million. In 2008 the company went bankrupt and ceased operations in 2009.
