A chiselled German wheellock rifle, circa 1740, Slightly swamped, octagonal barrel with eight-groove rifled bore, with brass front and rear sights and (later) aperture sight. Illegible smith's mark at the breech. Wheellock cut in relief with internal wheel, the lock plate with the depiction of a harbour scene with a seated Turk, the cock with rocaille cartouche and a further Oriental figure. Carved dark walnut stock with patch box, horn nose and rich, screw-mounted brass inlays. Wooden ramrod with horn tip.
