Three Skyrian foals that are one of the rarest breeds in the world have been born on the Cambo Estate near St Andrews, Fife. Gambolling in the spring sunshine, these three foals might look like any other native pony - but they are one of the rarest breeds in the newborns are Skyrian ponies, an ancient Greek breed thought to have been ridden into battle by Alexander the Great. But the breed is on the verge of extinction as only 125 Skyrian mares and stallions are thought to exist worldwide. Now a successful breeding programme is underway in Scotland to protect them for future generations.
