Certainly it was not a princely salary,from a congregation containing many families of wealthand prominence, in a city that was soon to be the capitalof the State. It is, however, to be remembered thatthe purchasing power of money was greater then thannow, and that, in addition to the subscriptions, therewere clerical fees.
