A day out on the Kerala Backwaters. Tour boats moored on the bank.

The Kerala Backwaters have become a popular tourist attraction in recent decades. Set back from the Malabar Coast of southwest India, a network of lagoons and waterways extends from the north of Kochi (formerly Cochin), southwards beyondAlappuzha (Allepey). Tours are taken in traditional wooden boats, usually propelled by a long pole. Many escort groups on day trips, others are avai;able for private hire with meals and some spend a couple of days leisurely meandering the backwaters, making occasional stops onshore.
