Church of St Mark is the Upper Town s parish church The church was first mentioned in 1256 and has undergone various alterations due to fires and earthquakes The most notable feature at first is the colorful glazed tiles on the roof The tiles bear the coats of arms of Croatia Dalmatia Slavonia and the city of Zagreb which dates to 1882 Zagreb is the capitol of the Republic of Croatia and not only the heart of political activity but also economic and cultural Present Zagreb has developed from two medieval settlements Gradec and Kaptol dating as far back as 1094
