Housing construction is ongoing on the eastern slopes of Ramot, or Ramot Alon, in East Jerusalem, on territory considered by the international community a settlement beyond the 1949 'green line' armistice agreement with Jordan. Just one day after the inauguration of Pres. Trump pledged strong support for Israel and vowed during his campaign to recognize Jerusalem as the country's capital despite the city's contested status.
