Vintage portrait engraving circa 1810 of King George III of Great Britain (1738 - 1820).

Vintage portrait engraving of King George III of Great Britain. George III (1738 - 1820) was King of Great Britain and King of Ireland from 1760 until the Union of the two countries in 1801 and then King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. He was also Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg and prince-elector of Hanover in the Holy Roman Empire before being made King of Hanover in 1814. His reign included a number of military conflicts including Britain's defeat in the American Revolutionary War which led to the loss of the American colonies and the creation of the United States of America. In later life George III famously suffered from mental illness, possibly due to the blood disease porphyria, and a final relapse in 1810 resulted in Parliament appointing his eldest son to rule as Prince Regent. Engraving circa 1810 by William Skelton (1763 - 1848).
